Hopefully we have more opportunities to work with Timbro in the future based on the relationship built from this project.
Working as a subcontractor to Timbro Contracting, All Roads is completing the final paving stage of the transformation from a two-lane road into a modern four-lane corridor.
The scope of All Roads' work includes placing 8,000 tonnes of 19 mm Superpave base lift, 6,000 tonnes of 12.5 mm Superpave top lift, and 1,500 tonnes of paving for the multi-use pathway. In addition, the team completed GPS fine grading across approximately 25,000 square metres. The paving subcontract is valued at more than $1.7 million.
While All Roads is responsible for the project's final surface and finishing touches, the extensive groundwork and infrastructure improvements were completed by Timbro Contracting. Their work included widening the existing two-lane roadway to four lanes, constructing a three-metre-wide multi-use pathway, installing new curb and gutter systems, upgrading storm drainage infrastructure, increasing ditch capacity, and replacing outdated culverts with new large box culverts.
As the final stage of construction, All Roads crews arrived on site to deliver the smooth blacktop finish that brings the entire project together. The team jokingly referred to the assignment as a "lipstick job" — an expression used to recognize that while All Roads is adding the final polished layer, the heavy lifting and major civil construction work had already been completed by Timbro Contracting.
"As a paving crew, All Roads' job here is to make the end result of our year-long hard work look pretty," said Travis Neels, Superintendent with Timbro Contracting, with a laugh. Sheldon Korell, All Roads' Asphalt Foreman, agrees. "Yes, we're basically putting lipstick on top of everything."
The project also marks the first collaboration between All Roads and Timbro Contracting, with both companies expressing enthusiasm about building a long-term working relationship together.
"Hopefully we have more opportunities to work with Timbro in the future based on the relationship built from this project," said Kyle Blakeborough, All Roads' Project Superintendent.
Travis echoed the sentiment, saying, "We've heard a lot of good things about All Roads — big-production, get-it-done crews — and tonight we're here to see it for ourselves."
With a smile, Travis added, "So far they haven't screwed anything up yet, and I'm sure they'll keep it that way. The work has been really good."
The successful partnership on 32nd Avenue has laid the foundation for what both teams hope will be many future projects together.
