"This is not a simple road upgrade. It is a complete rebuild from the ground up," says Project Manager Austin Armstrong.
"The project includes installation of new underground infrastructure and drainage systems, upgraded electrical/traffic signal works, full road realignment, new curbs and sidewalks, bike paths, and extensive landscaping enhancements."
Once complete, the intersection will provide safer, more accessible, and more resilient infrastructure for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users alike.
This intersection sits along one of TransLink's busiest bus corridors in the entire city and operates right under active trolley bus wires.
"Delivering a full reconstruction while maintaining continuous transit operations in such a high-traffic environment demands meticulous planning, coordination, and execution," explains Kyle Blakeborough, Superintendent of the project.
"Working under live overhead trolley infrastructure - while managing one of Vancouver's most active intersections - introduces a level of staging complexity rarely seen in urban roadwork. The sheer number of moving parts, from transit operations to traffic management and multiple concurrent scopes, is what makes this project quite complex."
Success on this project depends on disciplined coordination between a wide network of stakeholders. All Roads works in close collaboration with subcontractors, the City of Vancouver, inspectors, Coast Mountain Bus Company, BC Hydro, TCUS safety watch personnel, and extensive traffic control teams to ensure seamless integration of all activities on site.
With active transit routes, heavy vehicle flow, and pedestrian activity throughout construction, proactive communication and precise scheduling are essential to maintaining momentum while minimizing disruption.
Beyond construction delivery, All Roads places strong emphasis on community engagement. The Kerrisdale business district is a vital commercial hub, and maintaining access and operational continuity for local businesses is a priority.
Through regular updates, direct communication, and carefully phased work, the team ensures residents and business owners remain informed and supported throughout construction. Protecting business operations while advancing critical infrastructure improvements is a key measure of success.
In a high-traffic, transit-intensive environment, safety is paramount. All Roads prioritizes the protection of workers, transit operators, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists through comprehensive safety planning, rigorous procedures, and continuous coordination with safety and traffic control personnel.
While operating within tight constraints and complex staging conditions, the team remains committed to delivering the project safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard of quality.
The Arbutus & W 41st Avenue reconstruction stands as a showcase of All Roads Construction's ability to deliver complex urban infrastructure projects in some of Vancouver's most demanding environments - strengthening the community while keeping the city moving.
