Due to a large grade difference of 200 mms or more in the middle of emergency entrance, we once again had to get creative to get the job done.
We have also completed the west side works on East Columbia up to and including Sherbrooke. Last week (Nov 15) all road sub-base excavations were completed, base gravels were laid down, followed by base paving. This was a big milestone for the current phase of this project because for the last 3 months we have had a substantial grade difference of 200 mm or more at the crown of East Columbia due to the new design. This created issues for not only vehicle traffic, but also for controlling of rain water, which we've had plenty due to a few atmospheric river events! Now that it is all base-paved the road drains and function as designed.
Construction at the emergency entrance had its challenges as well. We are required to maintain an open and unobstructed passage at all times for both vehicle and foot traffic, day and night. We, therefore, had to construct the entrance in sections and allow concrete to cure before removing the remainder of the driveway and completing the entrance.
Due to an aforementioned large grade difference in the middle of emergency entrance, we once again had to get creative to get the job done. If the weather permits, we should be done the south side of east Columbia by the end of this month.
Despite being the leader in deploying modern precision GPS and LPS technologies, All Roads used old-school methodology at this project. And the following video of our crew in action has become one of the most-viewed videos on our YouTube channel!
